Sunset Hill Residence is a two-story house built for a retired couple well-practiced and well-loved in the craft of things. Overlooking the Puget Sound on a quiet bluff, the residence enjoys views and refuge in the middle of the city. A Great Room of living, dining and entertaining spaces is orientated towards views of the Puget Sound, with full height windows and doors connecting indoor living areas to outdoor patios and lawns. Grand timber construction and custom wood casework is exposed throughout the house, with decorative details personally commissioned by the owners.
The house is organized around a roof-guided asymmetry: in the Great Room, a gently sloping roof creates an active height above the kitchen with a more intimate volume in the lounging areas. A detached combination garage and workshop its on its south side with a studio apartment perched above.
