The Roe Art building accommodates the dual requirements of both art and sports programs. Housed inside are a ceramics and sculpture studio, as well as locker rooms and equipment storage for the varsity soccer team whose field lies outside. The structure’s bold design is an emphatic expression of the studio workspace. Large south-facing windows capture as much natural light as possible; clerestories allow for natural ventilation.
While tailored to the unique instructional methodologies inherent in a 21st-century, teaching-based ceramics and sculpture program, the design also provides technological, HVAC, seismic, and energy systems that meet or exceed today’s codes. The result: a safe and highly effective facility for today’s needs layered onto a dynamic, flexible, and responsive framework that will accommodate future developments.
